Kilmurry school was built in 1871, after over 100 years it closed as a school in 1976.

The (0.115 Ha) -site is bounded by a beautiful existing cut limestone wall and is in a pleasant rural location near Cordal village beside the Shanowen river with views of the hills beyond.

The property might suit a builder or DIY enthusiast or indeed anyone with an interest in building conservation. It could easily be converted into one or two exceptional houses with unique characteristics and fine traditional workmanship. The high roof makes it ideal for a dormer style conversion in part or in total thereby doubling the floor area. The structure was completely reroofed in late 2009 as a conservation project part funded and approved by the Heritage Council. The original slate was reused in part with matching salvage slates and new natural stone slates also being used. Existing pine rafters were substantially retained and repaired with new matching treated timbers in line with conservation principles. Roof coverings were set on new pre-treated counter battens and a breather membrane with eaves venting installed.
