This site housed the first ever successful communications base including the ruin of the 150 year old Anglo American Cable House connecting Europe and America and the remains of this property can be still seen today making it an ideal site for a cultural centre with global significance. Trans Atlantic telegraph cables operated from Valentia Island from 1866.
