Monastery Close is a state-of-the-art, safe and secure sheltered living complex, located on the Brittas Road, just a short walk from Liberty Square, Thurles. It comprises 23 Two-Bed Houses and 11 Apartments, all beautifully set in mature and landscaped grounds. The apartments are part of a refurbished monastery, which belonged to the Christian brothers.

These newly-built apartments and houses are spacious, bright and located conveniently close to the town centre to promote independent living for residents, while also providing privacy through a gated entrance and driveway.

The houses and apartments are constructed to the highest standard with low energy levels as extensive use is made of geothermal energy, heat pumps and solar energy. This, of course, dramatically reduces the operating cost of a house or apartment.

Monastery Close operates it's sheltered housing on a 'not-for-profit' basis and entry is via one of two schemes as follows:

SCHEME ONE:
Scheme one is targeted at people with limited means, who are eligible to be housed by a local authority. Generally, applicants under this scheme have limited income and charges relate to the old age pension rates.

SCHEME TWO
This scheme is targeted at people who are not eligible to be house by a local authority. This is normally due to the fact that they own, or have disposed of, a private dwelling, or alternatively have adequate means to purchase or fund their own property. In such cases, Monastery Close enter into an arrangement with the occupant to accept an interest free loan for the duration of their stay.
